The 2010 vintage of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio marks the 50th anniversary of the wines creation. In 1961, Santa Margherita’s winemaker had the inspired idea of applying traditional white wine vinification techniques to the pink-hued Pinot Grigio grapes of Trentino Alto Adige. Immediately separating the skins from the fruit in the pressing phase prevented them from yielding the (until then) classic rusty color. This process created an innovative white wine which, with its characteristics of a fresh, fragrant bouquet and versatile taste, represented a real revolution in wine production.
Introduced in Canada in the early 1980s, Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio’s popularity has grown to make it the top selling Italian premium white wine with an average of 900,000 bottles enjoyed each year. Its success is due to the wine’s food-friendly versatility, affordability and unique combination of intensity and freshness.
To mark this 50th Anniversary occasion, a special celebratory logo adorns the Pinot Grigio bottle’s gold capsule. Look for the special Anniversary Edition of this historic 2010 vintage at your liquor store soon and enjoy while supplies last.
